Most of these were fairly minor, with my chief complaint not being able to easily add an element. In my test drive, I also found some drawbacks to using the Oxygen XML Editor. Overall, there was a lot to like about the Oxygen XML Editor: the user interface, validating the file, the outline feature, helpful shortcuts, and the text and author views for creating XML files. I tried to find where this might be located but could not, even after checking extensively within the menus. It was not user-friendly within the interface to add an element to my file.Then I found the arrow clicked it and was then able to add my attribute. Initially I clicked on the line where I would have wanted to type the attribute, but nothing happened. Was able to add an attribute somewhat easily to my sample file, but this was not instinctive in the interface. OS X includes Java by default or it will install it on the first attempt to run a Java application.Of the three working views for the editor (text, grid, and author), I did not see much use for the grid view.Since my sample XML file was well-formed, I would have preferred some sort of message that my file checked out fine.
This is because it is a submenu under validating the document which you can only reach by clicking the small triangle next to the validate icon. The check for the well-formedness of a user’s document is much less intuitive than the validity check.The shortcuts at the top of the interface such as save, spell check, and find are useful and simple to use.The author view displays the individual tags well. The text view seems to be the most helpful for showing where you are within the file as it highlights your position in blue and shows the overall structure of the XML file.
